This is probably a bit late as we are now in Coober Pedy, but here's a short one of our stay in Alice.Talk about a change in weather, It was bloody hot coming down from Katherine and when we lobbed in Alice it was the opposite. It rained and blew it's guts out for most of the time.
We were lucky though with the timing. Two day after we lobbed there was the Henley On Todd boat regatta.
A bunch of loony's running through a dry river bed with boats that don't have any hulls. The silly bastards have to hold on to the sides and run down the dry river bed.
We got some photo's of the parade through town but didn't actually go to the race in the sand as we were buggered from all the travelling.
We decided to stay for a couple more days than originally planned because it was raining and too miserable to travel, and it turned out to our advantage as the weekend after the regatta it was the 2010 Truckies Hall Of Fame Reunion. (Sorry Keith, you're gunna be pissed that you missed out on this one. If you send me a forwarding address, I'll burn you a copy of the 800 or so photo's of all the rigs).
About 800-1000 trucks from all over Oz turned up and had a ball for about a week. This only happens every 5 years and we were lucky enough to be there. We went out to the Hall Of Fame paddock (about 5kms from the show grounds where we stayed) and ogled trucks of all sorts, shapes, breeds and vintages. What an experience!
On Sunday they had a grand parade and all the trucks drove from one side of Alice, through town back to the Hall Of Fame paddock. I think I have about 800 photos to sort through.
The next day we took off for Coober Pedy.
