Darwin to Alice Springs

OK, so I'm slack - I know.


Anyway we made it down to 'The Alice' after about 5 days.
We left Darwin and drove to Katherine for the night. Back in the Riverview Park.
Took off from there and went to Mataranka - Bitter Springs Caravan Park. Great park about 5-6kms out of town and has a thermal pool outlet just down the back, so off we went for a swim.

The water is about 34 degrees and is as clear as crystal. Fantastic!!!

Left there and dropped in to Larrimah for a decko at the pub and free zoo. 

Another eye opener. If ya didn't know it was there you'd just whizz on by and miss out.

The zoo is great - All sorts of birds from parrot's to emu's, a croc (what else up here?), snapping turtles and snakes. Just to name a few.

We stopped for scones and cream with a cup of coffee on the front porch. Nanny thought she saw her first cowboy - It was actually a biker in his leather duds and checked shirt - he he.

Moved on down and stayed just south of Elliot at a wayside park overnight then, next day continued southward past the 3-way which is a service station and the turn off from the Northern Territory via the Barkley Highway to Queensland and on to Tennant Creek to do some shopping. Ya can't even buy any take-away beer up here until after 2pm in the afternoon. If ya go to the pub you can buy a light beer over the bar until 2pm and then you can have a full strength or spirits after that. (something to do with trying to help the local dark clouds. Not working though, they are still pissed all day and sitting in the streets everywhere).


Anyway, we got our shopping done and drove down further to stay at Bonny Well Camp Spot for the night.

Tried my hand at some time exposures on the sunset. The windmill was glowing with all the colours of the rainbow and I haven't really done it justice. Starting to cool down during the evenings now. We had to dig out an extra sheet.

Left there and on the way south we passed 'The Devils Marbles"' and drove through to Taylor Creek for another nights rest. The wind has been quite strong and it's not nice travelling big distances. 


When we took off in the morning and dropped in to Barrow Creek Roadhouse for a look.
This is where Peter Falconio was killed in 2001. Just 13.5kms north of the roadhouse.

Peter Falconio (November 1, 1973 - July 2001) was a British tourist who disappeared in the outback in July 2001, while travelling with girlfriend Joanne Lees and is now presumed dead. He was 27 years old at the time of the disappearance and his body has never been found.

Bradley John Murdoch was convicted of his murder on 13 December 2005. The case attracted considerable public and legal attention worldwide.


The Barrow Creek roadhouse is also famous for it's historical overland telegraph site.

Kept travelling down through Ti Tree (Bloody fuel's almost as expensive as Nanutarra - but not quite) and stayed at Conner Well about 95kms north of Alice Springs.
